About IEEE Southeastern Michigan (SEM)
The IEEE Southeastern Michigan Section (SEM) is one of the oldest and most dynamic sections in the United States, with roots dating back to 1911. Today, SEM proudly represents 2,773 members, supported by 18 technical chapters, 4 affinity groups, 8 student branches, and 8 student honors societies. Serving thousands of engineers, researchers, students, and industry professionals across the region, SEM reflects Michigan’s diverse strengths in automotive, energy, communications, robotics, and embedded systems. Through its technical chapters, affinity groups, and student programs, SEM provides a vibrant platform for professional development, mentorship, and community engagement. As part of IEEE Region 4, SEM connects Southeastern Michigan’s engineering community to a global network of more than 500,000 members worldwide, amplifying local innovation while contributing to global advancements in technology.
